Maestra Orfelinda
Shipiba Curandera and Master Shamanic Healer
Orfelinda Cauper joins us from Pucallpa, an Amazonian city of Peru best known for its large Shipibo population. Orfelinda started learning about Amazonian plants and their medicinal properties at a very young age from her grandfather who was the local curandero of her small jungle community. She would watch him heal people in his ceremonies at night, and during the day she would bring plants from the jungle whenever her grandfather would prescribe cures for ailments to his patients. This is often how curanderos are formed- from family lineage and ancestral wisdom passed down through centuries.
Her apprenticeship began at the age of 12 when she entered her first plant dieta. From there she dove deeper and deeper into the mysterious world of shamanism until bridging her studies of plant dietas and ayahuasca in her own ceremonies as a young adult.
Orfelinda has decades of experience healing people with many of those years dedicated to helping foreigners when she began working at large ayahuasca retreat centers in the Amazon basin. She brings a warm and loving energy to all of her ceremonies, often being described as a sweet and protective grandmother looking after her kin.
Orfelinda loves share about the Shipibo nation, her culture, and especially about plants. Her Shipiba name is Bawan Kate.
