Carolyn Elizabeth Shaw

Psychologist, Senior Yoga Teacher, Somatic Practitioner, and Writer

Carolyn Shaw is a trauma-informed psychologist and yoga teacher from Canmore, Canada. She works with clients from all walks of life, and her interest resides in the innate potential we possess to transform and heal. She understands that human beings are multifaceted and supports people in moving towards a feeling of wholeness through various somatic and cognitive approaches. Carolyn supports her clients to reconnect to the wisdom of themselves and recover the parts of self that have been suppressed or harmed. She weaves her approaches through a feminist lens to consider the different cultural and societal systems that deeply impact an individual’s experience and orientation to self and others. Carolyn believes deep healing is not only individual, but must be relational and collective.

As a senior yoga teacher and practitioner of over 17 years, she works with the yogic system and other healing modalities to explore the space where spirituality and science coincide. She considers the role that the body plays in our healing as pivotal, and works to support harmony between the mind-body relationship. She believes our deepest pain could be the entry point to our greatest gifts, and that the journey is powerful when we walk it together.

Carolyn completed her undergrad in Psychology from UBC and her Masters of Counseling in Psychology through Athabasca University. She has multiple additional trainings rooted in trauma informed care, compassionate inquiry facilitation, various somatic modalities, and feminist facilitation trainings. She has over 500 hr YTT, and is a lover of both movement and stillness. She teaches a variety of different styles of yoga and co-facilitates trauma-informed yoga teacher trainings in Canmore, Canada.

Carolyn’s love affair with Peru and ayahuasca began in 2015 when she took her first trip to a retreat center outside of Pucallpa. It was there she experienced profound transformation and is where her deep reverence of the Shipibo culture and medicine was born. She continued on to work at Temple of The Way of Light in 2020 as a yoga teacher supporting guests on their own plant medicine journeys. Carolyn joined the Intertwining Medicines team in May 2023, and is honoured to share her gifts and passions within sacred spaces of ayahuasca immersions.
